Joseph’s work has been published in prestigious publications such as the New York Times, The Guardian, Salon, The Huffington Post, The Advocate, Dissent, NY Press, The Indypendent, and more. His compelling stories and articles cover a wide range of topics, shedding light on important social issues and advocating for change. In recognition of his exceptional journalism, Joseph was a finalist in the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists and received the James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism.

He’s also served as a Senior Global Campaigner at Avaaz.org, a multi-issue campaigning network with millions of members worldwide and continuously growing. Joseph was also a founding campaigner at AllOut.org, the largest member-based global LGBT rights group. He has dedicated his career to fighting for human rights, equality, and social justice. Joseph’s experience includes working on Get-Out-the-Vote campaigns during various election cycles, including serving as a staff campaign director with MoveOn PAC in the 2014 presidential election.

Joseph’s passion for storytelling extends to the world of film. He has been involved in various capacities in compelling documentary projects. In 2009, Joseph served as the Outreach and Distribution Director for the national theatrical campaign of the award-winning documentary film, “The Yes Men Fix the World.” He has also worked as a field producer on location for a short film titled “Battle for the Xingu,” which explores the political battle surrounding a mega-dam project in the Brazilian Amazon. Additionally, Joseph worked as a producer on “Who Am I?” a documentary commissioned by Channel 4 (UK) that delves into issues of memory and identity in the context of ongoing human rights trials in Argentina.

Joseph’s dedication to promoting important voices extends to the world of publishing. From 2005-2007, he worked at The New Press, a New York-based not-for-profit book-publishing house with a public interest mission. The New Press is known for publishing significant works in journalism, history, and politics, including notable authors like Studs Terkel.

In His Own Words

An award-winning writer, seasoned campaigner, and big fan of bold, creative storytelling. A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, I seem to end up where politics, social movements, and media intersect, and I currently work with one of the smartest, funnest teams in the world at A—B building the profile and power of progressive ideas, people and institutions.

At global campaigning network Avaaz I researched disinformation networks, organized climate marches and campaigns, and ran grassroots fundraisers backing some of the boldest change-makers around the world, from activists creating a first of its kind snow leopard preserve in Nepal to humanitarian heroes in Myanmar.

Previously as a journalist I covered religion, politics and culture, human rights, economic justice, immigrant and refugee stories, LGBT issues and more for the New York Times, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, The Nation and many more. I’ve also worked on a number of documentary film projects shot in the U.S. and in Latin America, am fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, and have traveled and worked extensively in Latin America and elsewhere.
